Ordered some Rimwax a couple of weeks ago and finally used it last weekend. The actual product looks and smells really nice! It’s a purple like gel which you just apply to your alloy wheels on your car and then buff off similarly to normal car wax. I’ve taken a few pictures of progress and I’ve been very happy with the results. It’s left a nice shine to my alloys and hopefully it will protect them against brake dust etc for longer.

Rimwax Competition: The Dark Side!

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

The Rimwax competition over the last month was a great experience, we saw some really great cars sent in and had great fun looking at them and sharing them with the world. However, not all of the entries were quite of the same standard, we had a select few entries that were to dark, to evil, to be posted at the time. These cars have been severely abused and are in need of some love and care, not even alloy wheel wax could save these poor auto’s

Those who truly love cars, look away now!

Upsetting pictures…however, do not let this draw attention away from the beautiful majority of cars which have been sent to us over the month, and we would like to thank you for all your support and entries, and hope you to see some more of your cars in the future.

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

You may well know that over the last month, we have been running a competition in co-operation with microfibre direct to find the best, most detailed car pictures.

We have had lots of great entries and us at Rimwax would like to thank everyone for their entries and support during the competition and hope that we have introduced new people to our great alloy wheel wax.

However, unfortunately, everyone cannot be a winner, and we had to pick two of the entrants to be the winners of a free tub of Rimwax and a microfibre cleaning towel.

After much discussion and deliberation, we managed to come to an agreement and chose the two winners:

Mark Loony and his Honda Civic and Chris Mellin and his Subaru Impreza WRX/Alfa Romeo

The winning entrants will also be posted on www.rims4u.co.uk later today, and check back her tomorrow to see a few extra entries we recieved that were not QUITE up to the standard of the others, something we call Rimwax competition, the dark side.

So thank you very much everyone for making it a great month full of looking at your beautiful cars, and be sure to make Rimwax a staple in your car detailing kit.

The Purpose of Alloy wheels

Monday, July 26th, 2010
Most people may think an alloy wheel is just an expensive accessory there to dress up your car and make it look  a lot better, but there are many more positives than just looking good.
A main beneficiary alloy wheels, apart from of course aesthetic improvement, is how they affect a cars performance.
Alloy wheels are typically made from either aluminium or magnesium or, quite often, an alloy of both materials.  The main difference between these elements and the usual steel wheels is that alloys are much lighter yet still maintain a substantial amount bit of their durability and also conduct heat much better.
Lighter wheels benefits both the cars performance, and the drivers wallet. The significant decrease in the cars weight means that both the top speed, and fuel economy will improve. This along with the improved aerodynamic qualities of an alloy wheels which also increases speed and fuel consumption means that with alloy wheels you can go faster and further for your money.
Alloy wheels will also conduct heat much better which is a positive thing because this helps increase the overall heat dissipation from braking which keeps the brakes cooler and decreases the possibility of a braking failure. Less chance of a braking failure not only increases the cars performance but also makes the car a lot safer, lets face it, when you press the brake, you want to stop.
However these facts are not  particularly common knowledge, and people don’t usually fork out around £100-£500 per wheel just because of this. Most people simply purchase alloy wheels to improve their cars looks, and we respect this also, and we want to help you with that, so make sure for whichever reason you purchased alloys wheels, you apply some Rimwax, one of the top alloy wheel wax products on the market today and keep those wheels shiny. So remember, alloy wheels provide more than meets the eye, so if your planning on treating yourself to a new set of alloys, its going to benefit both the appearance, and performance of your car, and who can argue with that?

Eco-Washing

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Whilst most petrolheads are not exactly ‘eco warriors’ fighting to save the planet, there is generally a growing concern about our planet and the way we treat it. Co2 cutting initiatives and the increasing prominence of both Hybird and electric cars are just some of the ways in which businesses are trying to reduce their impact on the planet whilst keeping profit and productivity up. However if these aren’t your cup of tea, and you do not plan on giving up the 4litre petrol engine for a prius just yet, there are other ways in which you can care for the environment whilst keeping your car loud and proud.

Washing your car has more impact on the environment than you may think, using large amounts of water, with soaps, detergents and dirt in it can have quite an adverse effect as the water can then run into storm drains, and go untreated into local waterways.

Here are a few tips on how to reduce the environmental impact of keeping your car clean:

  • Try to use less water (a typical home wash uses 116 gallons of water!)
  • Go to a car wash rather than cleaning it yourself – they use less water and it goes into sewers for proper treatment rather than just into storm drains
  • If hand washing, wash it on grass so that the run off water soaks into the soil, giving the grass a drink and keeping the detergents out of local waterways
  • When disposing of dirty water, make sure you tip it into your toilet or sink so that it goes into the sewers for proper treatment.
  • Try to keep your car as clean and protected for as long as possible so you do not have to wash as often, applying a good wax, such as Rimwax can provide protection and shine for many miles.

Whether the environment is a key concern of yours or not, you cannot deny that the above steps are all pretty simple and easy ways in which you can look after the environment, without having to go out of your way. So think of them next time your car is looking dirty, and make sure you get out, and spread of the word of Rimwax and the Eco-washing!

Caring For Your Alloy Wheels

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

As times have changed, the alloy wheel has become a much more common site, once a rare item only on the best cars, now 50% of all cars are fitted with alloy wheels. Despite this being good for both car performance and appearance, almost all of these alloy wheels are curbed or damaged at some point, spoiling the appearance of a nice car.

Getting your alloy wheels refurbished is all well and good to bring back their original appearance and get them glinting in the sun once again, but you’ve just spent your hard earned cash on having it done, how can you avoid having to do that again? Well the answer is simple, TLC.

Many people wash and wax their cars paintwork on a regular basis, but many neglect their wheels, which need just as much, if not more, TLC to keep them shining. Alloys are like a magnet for brake dust, and combined with the heat from the brakes themselves, the dust can easily get baked onto the wheel. Along with this, being close to the road means salt, dirt and other grime can also get on the wheel and cause quite a mess.

The most simple way to keep your wheels in pristine condition, is regular cleaning, ideally once a week, spraying them down with water, then applying a good quality cleaner to eat away at the dirt, before rinsing and wiping clean. However we understand that not everyone has the time or motivation to spend time cleaning their wheels every week. So there is a simpler way, prevention rather than a cure. After cleaning simply apply a good quality alloy wheel wax, for example Rimwax, to the front and back of your alloys. Doing so will ensure that dirt from the road will be repelled by the wax, keeping the wheels protected and much cleaner for longer.

Its unfortunate that high quality wheels have to come at a high price, but with simple care, cleaning and some Rimwax protection, along with not hitting the curb! means they can stay in better condition for longer, keep your car looking great and keep your money in your wallet.

Keeping Modern With A Quick Clean

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Many people like to replace their car with a newer model after every few years so that they can stay up to date and fresh with the changing times. However with the current economic climate, budget cuts everywhere from the government right down to individuals, and tax increases which motorists often bear the brunt of, people are being forced to stick with their current car for longer than previously expected.
There is, however, a simple way to keep your car looking fresh and new, without breaking the bank, and this method is simply, cleaning. Regular care and cleaning given to your car can keep it looking as modern as the day you purchased it, and will also help when it comes to eventually selling it, lets face it, everyone would rather buy a clean modern looking car rather than one that has suffered years of neglect.
So instead of going our spending thousands on a new car this year, stick with your tried and tested that has served you so well, and give it the attention it deserves, wash, polish, and of course, don’t forget the Rimwax to keep those wheels looking bright and shiny.
